The aim of the Children and Domestic Violence course is to provide workers in the field of domestic violence, community and/or health services with the specialist knowledge, skills and understanding required to work effectively with children who are living in, or have lived in, a domestic violence situation.
Accredited course, ‘Introduction to Domestic Violence’ or equivalent.
The course will be of 13 hours duration and delivered over 2 days from 9.30am until 4.00pm each day. A further 6 hours (approximately) will be needed for participants to complete the post-training assessment tasks. Lunch and morning and afternoon tea is provided.
DVRCV recognises that people learn in different ways. To this end the course is structured to maximise experiential learning and participants’ existing skills and strengths using adult learning principles. Methods include short presentations, small group exercises, video, discussion, case studies and role-plays.
Children and Domestic Violence is aligned to meet one of the domestic violence units of competency in the Community Services Training Package (CHC99).
Upon successful completion of all the assessment criteria for the Children and Domestic Violence course participants will receive the nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for the following Domestic Violence competencies:
Establish confidence and rapport with children (CHCDFV8B/01)
Explore issues and develop plans (CHCDFV8B/02)
Provide support, advocacy and information (CHCDFV8B/03)

Successful completion of classroom training exercises, including small group exercises, case studies, role-plays, and discussion throughout the course AND
Successful completion of Post Training Assessment Booklet comprising questions and tasks addressing the learning outcomes AND
Self-reflection journal completed for both days.
