Real Rape Real Pain: Help for Women Sexually Assaulted by Male Partners by Patricia Easteal and Louise McOrmond-Plummer (2006).
Partner rape has often been perceived by the media and the community to not be as serious or traumatic as “real” rape by strangers. There are few books that focus exclusively on women who have been sexually assaulted by their partners.
Drawing on the experiences of 30 survivors of partner rape from Australia, North America Canada and the UK, it is a healing and resource book for survivors, supporters and professionals in the fields of counselling and advocacy.
Refugee Settlement, Safety & Wellbeing: exploring domestic & family violence in refugee communities by Susan Rees & Bob Pease (2006) for Immigrant Women's Domestic Violence Service.
A study that examines cultural, psychosocial and economic factors in the safety & wellbeing of refugee families experiencing domestic & family violence. This study identifies the vulnerabilities specific to immigrant & refugee women.
Consultations with different communities resulted in a recommendation for using a multi-level framework to illustrate violence prevention strategies in partnership with refugee communities. |

Family Violence Laws Reform
The Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC) released the Review of Family Violence Laws Final Report in March 2006. The Department of Justice had undertaken to develop new legislation in response to the VLRC’s recommendations and to release an exposure draft Bill prior to the state election in November 2006.
The Department has now decided to delay the legislation until 2007. The delay means that there will not be an opportunity to debate the proposals prior to the state election.
The Federation of Community Legal Centres and Domestic Violence Victoria are running a campaign to seek to have the VLRC recommendations implemented as a whole package.
For information about how to get involved in the campaign contact Catherine Plunkett on 9654 2204 or at Catherine_plunkett@fcl.fl.asn.au. |
